Alchemical Deck

The Alchemical Tarot is a classic modern deck that threads traditional tarot meanings through the symbols of the Great Work—think philosopher’s stone, transformation, and inner “gold.” The imagery is styled after old alchemical engravings (Renaissance/17th-century inspired), so it feels like you’re reading from a beautifully illustrated occult manuscript.

It was created and illustrated by Robert M. Place—an American artist, writer, and tarot scholar known for his work on tarot history and symbolism. The original deck-and-book set was first published in 1995 (with the companion book credited to Rosemary Ellen Guiley), and Place has continued refining the deck across multiple editions over the years
